UFC 104 bonuses and awards for ‘Machida vs Shogun’ PPV fights

October 25th, 2009

UFC 81 Bonus

UFC 104: “Machida vs. Shogun” from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., has officially wrapped, which means that it’s time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.

To the tune of $60,000 each.

The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 22 fighters on the card. And one fighter left “The Golden State” with a double dose of green.

In addition to their base salaries, the UFC awarded undercard standouts Pat Barry and Antoni Hardonk “Fight of the Night” for their hard hitting, back-and-forth war that was short on rounds but long on excitement.

Not only did Barry “Get Hype,” he also got cash, as the short but powerful kickboxer scored “Knockout of the Night” with his lights-out finish over Hardonk in the second frame.

Also bringing home the proverbial bacon was Stefan Struve, who locked up Chase Gormley in the “Skyscraper” Triangle from which there was no escape, earning a tap and a cool 60 G’s for “Submission of the Night.”

Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC 104:

Fight of the Night — Pat Barry vs. Antoni Hardonk
Knockout of the Night — Pat Barry
Submission of the Night — Stefan Struve

Again, each fighter received $60,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible.

Antoni Hardonk is no prophet — but still predicts a good performance at UFC 104

October 20th, 2009

“People ask me this all the time. I’m not a prophet like Muhammad Ali. I don’t know beforehand what’s going to happen, but I do know that I feel really comfortable with my game right now. I feel the strongest Antoni Hardonk I have ever been. So I focus on myself and I don’t know what my opponent is going to do. That’s up to him. That’s his responsibility, but I feel great and I am ready to give a really, really good performance and it’s going to be tough for him, that’s for sure.”

Antoni Hardonk discusses his upcoming UFC 104 fight against fellow kickboxer Pat Barry on MMAmania.com’s exclusive presentation of Pro MMA Radio. The fight is one of two featured undercard bouts that will make their way onto Spike TV as a prelude to the main card, which is headlined by the light heavyweight championship scrap between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua. Hardonk entered UFC 97 on a three fight winning streak, only to have it cut short by Cheick Kongo. He looks to rebound with the Spike TV audience watching at 9 p.m. ET on Oct. 24.

Hype or die: Pat Barry gots a lil’ sumtin’ for Antoni Hardonk — and da Haterz

October 16th, 2009

Get Hype

Props: Heavy.com

Quoteworthy:

“People got to hate you, this is what I learned doing the fighting sports; people are going to hate you no matter what, it don’t matter how well that you do. I’ve had a 1-second knockout and I still heard people talk crazy about how my haircut was or how awful my shorts was. People look at my measurements and just assume I’m really small and they might be right, they might be right maybe I am too small but if I punch you in the head you ain’t going to think I’m too small anymore. This fight means more to me than just going and getting a win because this is almost like a, oh you thought I couldn’t make it and now look at what I’m doing. That’s what (my) “Hype or Die” [concept] is, man just put your gloves on and swing for the fences every time or really don’t bother don’t waste your time.”

“Ninth Ward Solider” Pat Barry coming straight outta New Orleans for Antoni Hardonk at UFC 104 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on October 24. The 5′ 11″ heavyweight actually trained in Holland in the VAS Gym alongside Hardonk under K-1 champion Ernesto Hoost — but left after five years and a kickboxing record of 18-6-1 due to a falling out with his Dutch mentor. Now he has a chance to prove just how far he’s come by taking on his former team mate. Redemption? We’ll know in just over a week.
